Does anyone know what this pose is called?? I learnt it in a class but soo couldn’t attempt it until I tried it at home 😬 and it’s actually easier than crow pose because one of the leg is secured around the arm. I honestly think once chaturanga strength is mastered (which of course is work in progress for me) so many other arm balances are also unlocked 😍 . . Would LOVE to know if there are any other alternatives to build upper body strength apart from chaturanga? I eat a little before I practice yoga 🧘‍♀️ . I enjoy drinking tea 🍵, both caffeinated and herbal 🍃. I once attended a morning Bikram yoga practice with an empty stomach , honestly , It didn’t feel good for me, I felt light headed and had cramps. It was the first time it happened to me , and talked to my yoga teacher about it. Since there is only so much space in a caption here is that bit what helped me to understand what forces are needed and where I need to direct them. Especially as a beginner but also for experienced practitioner that aha-moment just doesn't come. ⠀ This post shows how I "got" it. Try it with flipped hands to see where your structure is leaking. ▪️Place two blocks (medium height) in the middle of your mat. That's your doorstopper 😅 ▪️Measure your plank pose. The doorstopper is under your thighs, closer to the pubis than your knees. Balls of the feet on the mat ▪️Another two blocks upright in front of you ▪️Lower down until your thighs are on the block and the shoulders touch the front blocks. It’s very likely you have to fidget a bit to find the right placement. I have a hack for that, too but I save this for another post ▪️Wrist perpendicular under shoulders ▪️Once you’ve found it PRESS your thighs on the blocks, the balls of the feet press like CRAZY into the mat ▪️legs will straighten. It’ll feel like the back of your knees will move towards the ceiling. Legs are highly active now which liberates your upper body ⠀ ⠀ Personally I like to lift my head & look forward. Blanket sliding! 🏂 chaturanga > malasana > purvottanasana and reverse it back ♻️ A fun way to experience the active use of the blanket prop. I shared this on my insta story and some people replied with similar questions so I repost it here to add some notes. ⁣ ⁣ ➕ Blocks can be added for hands to make arms longer. This will create more space to move the trunk and legs through the poses. Also blocks with handle bar grips, or any way to add height for arms. ⁣ ⁣ 🧦 Sliding can also be achieved with use of a towels or even socks on feet. Anything to help slide.⁣ ⁣ 🏄‍♀️ This is one of many ways to play with mobility and stability and let students do what they need to move through different shapes without giving too many instructions. This is YOGA series! Thursday Feature: Chaturanga Dandasana or High to Low Plank Variations How to make high to low plank work better for your body. We often see one correct version of Chaturanga, and then feel inadequate if we can’t do this every time it comes up in a class. One of the most powerful feelings in yoga is using variations of a pose to give your body what it needs in each moment, which changes day to day and moment to moment. Variations don’t make you weak, they don’t mean you can’t do something “correctly,” and they don’t make you bad at yoga. They give you the opportunity to find a version of a pose that works well for your body. When I started yoga, I couldn't even do that! 😂 Then I got my knees off the floor, but I couldn't hold the pose and would just flop down to the floor like a dead fish lol. My chaturanga has definitely improved a lot and the funny thing is, these progress come to you when you least expect it. A pleasant surprise that will just make your day. Unfortunately while dropping in and out of this posture during our Surya Namaskar we often don't have time to stop and check our alignment. Chaturanga requires a great amount of upper body and core strength to hold proper alignment and in my opinion is one of the most challenging "beginner" asanas. . . 🙌🙌Here are my tips to ensure a nice aligned Chaturanga and avoid any injuries or pain to your shoulders or elbows🙌🙌: . ✔Do: . 🔹Gaze focused down keeping the neck in line with the spine 🔹Shoulders away from ears 🔹Elbows at 90 degrees 🔹Wrists stacked under elbows-🔹Fingers spread 🔹Elbows hugging your body 🔹Core engaged 🔹Feet hip width apart . ❌Don't: . 🔸Look up and kink the neck back 🔸Shrug the shoulders up towards ears 🔸Wrists too far forward or back 🔸Arms winged out to the side 🔸Core relaxed 🔸Butt lifted 🔸Feet too close together . In this pose & any prep pose for it, be sure to keep the hands directly under the elbows💪🏼. It took longer (WAY LONGER) than I'd like to admit to be able to do a chaturanga 😅😅 (that yoga push up thing). Can anyone else relate to just collapsing down onto the floor when 'flowing' down from a high plank in your vinyasa?? 😂😂 I'm not even kidding I think it took 2 years of regular practise to gain the strength I lacked in my arms 🙈 But if I can do it anyone can do it!! If you'd have told me a few years ago I was going to become a Pilates teacher, with yoga and Pilates teaching my main source of income, I would NEVER have believed it. BUT, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE with a little hard work and determination 💪 and a whole lot of love, patience and guidance 💛!! Od danas ponedeljkom u storijima razlažemo asane na sitne deliće. Poenta je da poze, koje su većini zahtevne i teške, objasnimo da postanu makar dostižne, ako ne i lake. Prva asana koju ćemo obrađivati je čaturanga. Asana koja spada u osnovne, deo je pozdrava suncu A i B iz aštanga vinjasa joge, kao i drugih pozdrava suncu, radimo je često, a opet je većini ljudi fizički teška i neizvodljiva. Glavna stvar sa čaturangom je, pored snage, koju nesumnjivo zahteva, je kompaktnost tela i dobra priprema za pozu. U čaturangi je neophodno da celo telo drži pozu, da ne padne sav napor na ruke, a to znači angažovan stomak, zadnjica i butine. Pored toga bitno je dobro uzemljenje i zagrevanje zglobova šaka i ramena, da ih ne bi povredili.
